Marketing analytics is a field that requires lots of experience and knowledge, even through we can make the UI of our application as intuitive as possible, we have constantly received feedback from internal teams and external clients that they don’t know how to interpret reports, create plans based on their ad hoc questions or don’t know how to solve their business questions and get insights using our powerful tools.
We want to make tackling marketing analytics problems using our tools more accessible to everyone, and make the learning experience more than just user guide and screenshots.
That’s how we decided to create a series of course and make them as easy to consume as possible. This project is called Neustar Academy
As the UX designer and the motion designer for this project, I am asked to produces high quality courses with unified visual representation, provide a smooth learning experience for learners both internally and externally and gather feedback so we can keep improving and producing more courses.
We recruit 4 experts for MTA and 7 experts for MMM to be the teachers and narrators for the courses, they lending their expertise, voice and time to the course and bring diversity to the courses. I am responsible for all sessions of camera shooting and voice recording.
I first design mockups in Sketch, then I created all motion graphics elements in Adobe After Effects. Finally, I assembled all elements in Screenflow as a video template.
I want to bring dynamic and vibrant feeling to this course, so I used different shade of the same color with fast transition to achieve the result.
I created explanatory animations to convey complicated marketing analytics concepts. Based on the script, I first drew storyboards and then recreated the animations in AE/Principle to bring them to life.
I also created a template in Sketch to generate cover images for different courses.
I designed a deck contains slides teachers can use to create their content with a unified style, for example, titles, numbered lists, bulleted lists, definitions, etc.
With the help of the unified style guide and templates I created, we then assembled all the contents and crafted the course in a cloud-hosted learning management system called Talentlms.
The courses are divided into sections, for each section, it contains video tutorials and quizzes.
We created surveys at the end of our courses, so we can constantly getting feedback from our learners and keep improving our courses.
For MTA Essential course, we received 276 valid responses and for MMM Essential course, we received 122 valid responses.
We launch the first Neustar Academy course, Multi-Touch Attribution Essentials on July 26th, 2018, now we have:
And these numbers have been increasing since the first day of release.
